Mack Misstress Teaser – Dec 14th
Review by REX STONE
In the game of hip-hop you certainly have to do a lot to be original because there are so many artist that think outside the box. If Mack Mistress was able to hit the mainstream then Missy Elliot better start looking for a new job. This San Francisco Bay Area native is the answer to the age old question can female emcees spit just as hard and deliver like the boys, well with the release of “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” we definitely have an answer. This west coast representative is not playing any games with her quick delivery, ability to change style from one song to the next and then spit a hot 16 that would make Source Magazine want to post them!
From the beginning to the end of the CD you know that Mack Mistress is a well-developed artist that has taken time to put together a solid product. This album goes from hip-hop to rock-hop while all at the same time keeping its California style. It almost feels as if you were at Lake Merritt in Oakland on a Saturday in ’93! Not since Yo-Yo has the west put out a female that could represent like this. The lyrics, delivery, tracks, and production quality on this album are on point and rival most homo-hop releases to date.
Filled with street anthems, bay area hyphy songs, ladies sing-a longs, and hip-hop bangers this CD has it all. Mack Mistress has laid the foundation that will stand the test of industry time. Check out the killer tracks, “If You Want Too”, “Where My Girls At”, “Go Crazy”, and “Stand Up”. This is one album that has opened up the game for all of the other female rappers in the out hip-hop movement! Finally a rapper that has taken time to please the audience and not themselves!

It’s Only the Beginning
What a great opportunity, to be a voice for the Queer Women of Color (QWOC) community! Its really difficult to find the words to express how excited I am to be apart of this venture. I’ve been out of the closet for 10 years now and have endured some very encouraging and very hurtful times. Being an out, bisexual woman of color in the Bay Area has been a journey! Some of my most encouraging times have been when I’m sitting amongst friends chatting about what’s happening in this community, what challenges we’re facing, who’s holding what event, what new artist is performing, etc. These were the times that I really felt I was apart of this QWOC community. We’re fairly separated and I want to change that! I’ve decided to be the change I wish to see.
This, for me, is about giving us a voice. We don’t currently have a space on the radio where we don’t have to sugar coat who we are. We are Queer Women of Color! This shouldn’t be taboo to say….this is who we are and we should have the ability to regularly discuss concerns surrounding us.
Let me also point out the name of this show is “Real Talk” which of course means we’re going to be very real in our opinions. This space is created for addressing all happenings whether they be positive or negative and moving forward. So if you don’t agree with what we say…that’s ok! I hope you write to us and tell us your thoughts. Lets create healthy dialogue through this show. I’m looking forward to it!
Peace ~ Kiki
Voices
Oooooooohhhhhhhh I am sooooo excited to be here! Thank you Women’s Magazine on KPFA for giving us our own little spot in radioland. This is an exciting new venture for all of us. Women of Color voices on the airwaves in the Bay Area, oh yeah!
There are so many things I want to talk about, issues I want to address and conversations that need to be heard. My hope for the show is that we provide a space for Women of Color to speak their minds, learn about each other, support one another and have the hard conversations that we need to have with each other. Our time is now.
We all need to be the voices that encourages, enlightens, explains and engages with, not only each other, but with other communities. We are a rich, diverse and beautiful community of queer women of color that needs to do more than hold space we need to TAKE UP SPACE.
This is a journey, for me, into discovery and I hope you will join me and us for the ride! Who knows where it will take us
Peace
Miz Chris
